Building the Next Generation of Agro-Processors in Ashanti Region

🌾 Turning Skills into Opportunity — One Cassava at a Time

As part of AGRA’s Agricultural Mechanization Project under the Strengthened Access to Mechanization for Agribusiness to Enhance Youth Employment Opportunities in Ghana (SAMA) initiative, two cassava processing companies — Christaa and Josma Agro-Processing Companies have partnered with the Kumasi Institute of Tropical Agriculture (KITA) to provide workplace learning and mentorship for young agro-processors in the Ashanti Region.

This collaboration aims to equip trainees with hands-on experience, technical skills, and business knowledge within the cassava value chain, thereby bridging the gap between academic training and real-world industry practice. Supported by AGRA, the Mastercard Foundation, and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA), the partnership promotes practical learning through exposure to mechanized cassava peeling, grating, pressing, and packaging, while emphasizing entrepreneurship, quality control, and innovation in the agribusiness sector.

✍️Memorandum of Partnership (MoP)

The Memorandum of Partnership (MoP) for workplace learning signed between KITA and the two companies ensures a structured, supervised, and ethical learning environment where trainees are guided by experienced mentors and industry professionals.

Regular monitoring and evaluations by KITA and the partner firms guarantee that training outcomes align with national competency standards and the project’s vision of building a skilled, innovative, and gender-responsive agricultural workforce.

Conclusion

This initiative is more than a training program; it’s a movement to build Ghana’s next generation of agropreneurs. By linking learning with industry, AGRA, KITA, and their partners are turning potential into performance and knowledge into opportunity. The future of agriculture is not just growing — it’s being mechanized, mentored, and modernized by the youth of today.
