Emmanuel Appiah—Agronomist and Researcher
Education and Qualifications
Emmanuel holds a Master of Philosophy (M.Phil.) in Crop Science (Agronomy/Crop Physiology, 2021-2023) from AAMUSTED and a Bachelor of Science (BSc.) in Agricultural Science Education (2015-2019) from the University of Education, Winneba (UEW), graduating with First Class Honours (CGPA 3.51/4.00). Among over 350 graduating students, he ranked among the top five in the Faculty of Agriculture Education. He was recognized as the Best Student in the Department of Crop and Soil Sciences Education. His M.Phil research, completed with a CGPA of 3.69/4.00, assessed the effect of integrated nutrient management on the growth and yield of maize. Emmanuel completed his secondary school education at Sunyani Senior High (2010-2013), where he pursued the General Science program. Emmanuel completed his basic education at Fountain of Life International School (2007-2010), Tepa, A/R.
Technical Skills
Emmanuel possesses excellent computer and internet skills, strong communication and interpersonal abilities, and demonstrates effective teamwork, time, and project management, as well as a highly research-driven attitude.
Research Interests
- Climate-resilient agriculture
- Integrated nutrient management
- Soil fertility improvement
- Crop physiology
- Cropping system and patterns
- Sustainable maize production systems
- Agricultural education and outreach
Research Experience
Emmanuel’s research focuses on the intersection of soil fertility management, crop physiology, and climate adaptation. His Ph.D. research emphasizes the performance and greenhouse gas emission potential of maize genotypes under varying environmental conditions, supporting climate-smart agricultural development in Ghana and sub-Saharan Africa. His master's studies assessed integrated nutrient management strategies to improve maize growth, productivity, and soil properties under tropical field conditions. During his postgraduate studies, he also served as the Research Committee Chairman for the Graduate Students Association of Ghana (GRASAG), AAMUSTED-Mampong, where he organized research seminars for postgraduate students and provided general research assistance.
Earlier in his academic journey, he conducted his undergraduate project at the University of Education, Winneba, to assess the effect of aloe vera gel on growth of Bougainvillea glabra cuttings.
Professional Roles
Emmanuel has served as a teaching assistant at AAMUSTED (2019/2020 academic year), supporting undergraduate instruction in agronomy, experimental design, data analysis, and research methodology.
He also contributes as a peer reviewer for several SCIENCEDOMAIN International journals, including
- Journal of Experimental Agriculture International
- International Journal of Plant & Soil Science
- Archives of Current Research International
Conferences and Awards
He has presented his research at several major conferences, including the Ghana Institute of Horticulturists Annual Conference, the Ghana Science Association Biennial Conference, and the AAMUSTED Postgraduate Research Conference.
In 2024, he won 2nd Runner-Up for Best Published Paper from Thesis by the School of Graduate Studies, AAMUSTED.
Outreach and Initiatives
Outside academia, Emmanuel is the founder of AgronomyHub, an educational platform dedicated to sharing research-based agronomic knowledge with students, farmers, and young researchers. Through AgronomyHub, he simplifies complex agricultural concepts to promote sustainable farming practices and knowledge dissemination across Ghana and beyond.
