Introduction
The University of Skills Training and Entrepreneurial Development (USTED), through its Center for Business Incubation and Innovation, in collaboration with the Education Collaborative, has successfully hosted its maiden career fair, dubbed Career Connect 2026, a career development initiative designed to bridge the gap between students and industry. Held from June 17–18, 2026, at the Business Incubation and Innovation Center, Kumasi Campus, the event brought together over 450 students, employers, entrepreneurs, industry professionals, innovators, and development partners to create pathways for career growth, innovation, and employability development. The event created a platform for meaningful engagement between academia and industry by exposing students to career opportunities, workplace expectations, professional networks, mentorship, and entrepreneurship pathways.
Unlike traditional career fairs that primarily focus on recruitment, USTED Career Connect 2026 provided a broader platform where students could interact with employers, receive career guidance, showcase innovations, and explore opportunities for internships, national service, and employment. Under the theme “Enhancing Employability, Bridging Students’ Potential with Industry Opportunities,” the event emphasized the importance of preparing graduates with the technical knowledge, practical skills, adaptability, and professional competencies required in today's dynamic labour market. This reinforces the university’s vision of preparing students with the skills, knowledge, and professional connections needed to thrive in an increasingly competitive job market

One of the standout activities of Career Connect 2026 was the Student Innovation Pitching Competition, which showcased the entrepreneurial potential, creativity, and problem-solving abilities of USTED students. The competition provided an exciting platform for aspiring entrepreneurs to present innovative business ideas capable of addressing real-world challenges while demonstrating their readiness to transform ideas into viable enterprises. A total of 13 student groups participated in the pitching session, delivering compelling presentations before a panel of judges comprising industry professionals, entrepreneurship experts, and business leaders. Each team was evaluated on the originality of its idea, feasibility, innovation, market potential, scalability, and the quality of its presentation. The competition was highly competitive, with participants demonstrating remarkable creativity, confidence, and entrepreneurial thinking. Their presentations reflected the growing culture of innovation and enterprise that USTED seeks to nurture among its students. At the end of the competition, PeJARA Alliance emerged as the overall winner after impressing the judges with its innovative solution, strong business model, and well-articulated presentation. The team's outstanding performance earned it top honors, highlighting the importance of innovation, teamwork, and effective communication in transforming ideas into impactful ventures. The pitching competition not only recognized outstanding student innovations but also inspired participants to refine their ideas, pursue entrepreneurial opportunities, and contribute meaningfully to national development through innovation and enterprise.

than 100 students participated in the networking session, engaging in

economy. Participants had the opportunity to ask questions about career
pathways, internship and national service opportunities, workplace
expectations, recruitment processes, and the skills most sought after by
employers. The informal setting encouraged open dialogue, allowing students to
